100 years have passed since the discovery of Sataflia Cave
In connection with the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Sataflia cave, an ecotour was held for local schoolchildren. Besik Amiranashvili, Chairman of the Protected Areas Agency, joined the ecotour.
Sataflia cave was discovered in 1925 by Petre Chabukian, a teacher and naturalist from Kutaisi.
Sataflia is distinguished by a special historical and cultural significance — starting from the footprints of prehistoric dinosaurs, 120 million years ago, ending with a diverse karst cave.
Sataflia with its unique Kolkhi forest, panoramic view, tourist trails, museum and dinosaur park arouses the interest of visitors of all ages and hosts tens of thousands of visitors every year.
A visitor center and exhibition space opened in 2011 has significantly increased the tourism potential of the location. From 2015 to the present day, a large-scale infrastructure rehabilitation was carried out in Sataflia: the dinosaur park was renovated and new models were added, a children's entertainment area was organized, a tour was rehabilitated Eastern walkways, updated cave and patio lighting system and glass panoramic view. More than 4 million GEL was invested in the projects by the Agency of Protected Areas.
The Protected Areas Agency continues to develop Sataflia as one of the most important tourist facilities in the Imereti region to make the trip even more diverse and impressive for visitors.
