"A large number of wellness tourists come to Georgia for detox programs"
Almost 9% annual growth in turnover and approximately 1 trillion dollars in revenue - these are the official figures that the world's wellness tourism industry will perform in 2025.
According to international wellness experts, this industry has grown at a very fast pace this year and if its global revenues reached 895 billion dollars in 2024, this data has already increased to 975 billion dollars and one trillion, in fact, nothing remains.
Due to the growing interest of the world's population in wellness and health tourism and, accordingly, the high turnover of the sector, international experts do not rule out that in the next 3 years, the global revenues of wellness tourism will reach one and a half trillion dollars.
This industry is also growing in Georgia, but as local resorts and wellness centers say, the growth is relatively slow due to a whole chain of challenges.
As a "business partner" the doctor and the international wellness expe Rt, Wellness Director of Medical Wellness Resort "Bioli" Mikheil Kochiashvili said that since most high-income tourists are interested in wellness tourism, wellness and health tourism can make a great contribution to the economy of the country, therefore, the development of this field should be a priority task of the state.
According to him, until now there is no definition of wellness in terms of tourism in the country, in addition, there is a serious lack of awareness and the lack of qualified personnel, as well as the absence of relevant professional schools, is a challenge.
"Despite a number of challenges, the number of foreign visitors to "Biol" is increasing year by year. In the direction of the growth of wellness programs, the demand for detox was highlighted in 2025. This has already become a trend. Quite a large part of our guests, almost 60-70%, come to these detox programs. It seems to be related to guest reviews that rate highly Eba is given Bioli's detox program, and as a result, others are interested in visiting us. We have fully booked the month of December and the arrival of program guests continues", Mikheil Kochiashvili noted.
According to his information, visitors from Central Asian countries, as well as former post-Soviet countries and Israel, are particularly prevalent in "Biol".
For information, the USA leads the world in the direction of wellness tourism, both in terms of market size and spending part - the most money is spent here on wellness services. In Europe, the leader in this regard is Germany, with a very strong spa culture, and in Asia, China is at the head of wellness tourism, both in terms of the number of travelers and experience.
