From January 1, a new regulation will come into effect for tourists
According to the Law of Georgia "On Tourism" from January 1, 2026, when entering the territory of Georgia, a tourist is obliged to carry a health and accident insurance policy in physical or electronic form, in Georgian or English.
The insurance amount of the policy must be at least 30,000 GEL. The policy can be issued by both Georgian and foreign insurance companies.
The following data must be specified in the policy: insurance parties; covered area; subject of insurance; insurance start and end time; insurance risks and the amount of insurance money (limits); Amount of insurance deposit, place of payment and term.
Along with the above, it should be taken into account that the tourist needs to have health and accident insurance for the entire period of his delay after entering Georgia.
The obligation to have a policy does not apply to: holders of diplomatic or special visas; Diplomat Legal, official, official or special passport holders; Accredited employees of diplomatic missions, consular institutions, international organizations, as well as equivalent missions in Georgia, as well as family members of employees who have accreditation; persons whose entry into Georgia is stipulated by international agreements or treaties; on drivers involved in international road freight transport and passenger transport.
January 1, 2026 is set as the date of entry into force of the Resolution N602 of the Government of Georgia "On approval of the rules and conditions of mandatory health and accident insurance for tourists entering Georgia".
