A tourist tax will be introduced in Bucharest from 2026
Travelers to Bucharest will have to pay a new tourist tax in 2026, despite growing resentment from the hotel industry.
At the beginning of the month, the Bucharest Municipal Council published a draft of a special tax to promote tourism in the capital. Just four days later, on Tuesday, December 23, the measure was approved, raising concerns about the lack of a "concrete plan" to use the funds.
The tax, which is expected to generate 15 million Romanian lei (about 2.9 million euros) annually, will help promote the city as a tourist destination, officials said.
