$150 million will be spent on the development of Tbilisi Airport
The Association of Airports of Georgia (UAG) and TAV Georgia have signed an agreement to amend the contract on the construction, operation and transfer of Tbilisi International Airport. The document was signed by the General Director of the Union of Airports Levan Moseshvili and the General Manager of TAV Georgia Thea Zakaradze.
The document outlines the main directions of infrastructural expansion and operational development of Tbilisi International Airport and aims to develop the airport's capabilities and increase the passenger flow from 5 to 10 million by 2031, in accordance with international standards.
According to the agreement, in 2027-2031, Groupe ADP will invest USD 150 million in Tbilisi International Airport, which will be aimed at expanding the terminal and airfield infrastructure, modernizing technological and operating systems, and introducing modern standards of passenger services.
The expansion project is significant AD will improve the operational efficiency of Tbilisi International Airport, ensure the creation of a safe and comfortable passenger environment and contribute to the growth of passenger flow.
Within the infrastructure development of Tbilisi International Airport:
• The number of aircraft stands will increase from 58 to 65, which will significantly improve operational flexibility and flight management efficiency;
• The number of check-in counters and baggage carousels will increase;
• Passport control area, parking area and commercial spaces will be expanded;
• It will be possible to introduce new shopping, catering and business-lounge services, emphasis will be placed on the promotion of Georgian products and cuisine.
• With the implementation of the new development project of Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport, the Union of Georgian Airports will receive approximately 3 times more revenue from the Shota Rustaveli Airport.
• Union of Georgian airports accepted 25 million USD in addition to the upfront fee of the project.
• For the development of Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport, an investment of 150 million US dollars will be made. The completion of the project is planned for 2028.
In the coming years, the investment of an unprecedented scale in Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli Airport will have a significant social and economic impact on the development of aviation and tourism. Almost 100 percent of the people employed in the project will be local residents, and the small and medium-sized businesses involved in the construction and operation process will receive additional economic opportunities.
The agreement on the expansion of Tbilisi International Airport emphasizes the strategic importance of the country's aviation, tourism and economic development and aims to further strengthen Georgia's position in the regional and global aviation network.
