The Government of Georgia plans to create new protected areas in Samegrelo, Kakheti, Svaneti and Lechkhumi, - this is mentioned in the government's decree, which is a list of draft laws to be submitted to the Parliament in the spring session of 2026.
According to the government plan, the following will be created:
Egris National Park
"According to the draft law, the Egris National Park is established in the administrative border of Tsalenjikh, Chkhorotsku and Martvili municipalities, and its total area is defined as 37,086 hectares. The territory intended for the Egris National Park is an important place for the conservation of biodiversity. 26 species of vertebrates common in the territories of the Egris National Park are included in the Red List of Georgia. Along with the creation of the national park One of the goals is to protect and preserve the unique geomorphological formations - Kuakantsalia boulder, Tsotne Dadiani and Albov karst wells; chestnut trees and local (localu ri) conservation of habitats of endemic flora species. "Conservation of the boxwood groves of the Kolkhi forest, the preserved Betula megrelica forests in the areas of Mta Migaria and Mta Jvari" - it is written in the description of the bill.
Protected areas of Svaneti and Lechkhumi:
"According to the draft law, protected areas are created in Svaneti and Luchkhumi (in the municipalities of Mestia, Lentekhi and Tsageri), in particular, in the municipalities of Mestia and Lentekhi, Mkinvari National Park is created on 43,766 ha, in Lentekhi municipality, the Lentekhi National Park is created on 22,300 ha, in Tsageri In the municipality: Lechkhumi National Park on 15,936.95 ha, Khvamli Forest on 2,690 ha, Sairmi Pillars Natural Monument on 32.6 ha, Rachkha Waterfall Natural Monument on 1.7 ha, and Gvirisha Waterfall Natural Monument on 3.5 ha. These areas represent an important place of biodiversity For conservation, 61 mammals are distributed in the territory defined by the law species, 155 species of birds nesting within Georgia, 15 species of reptiles, 9 species of amphibians and others", - it is written in the description of the draft law.
Protected areas of Tsiv-Gombor:
"According to the draft law, the national park of Civ-Gombori (Sagarejo, Gurjaani and Telavi municipalities) will be created on the territory of 20,000 ha, and the "Gurjaani protected landscape" will be created on the territory of Gurjaani municipality on the territory of 17,000 ha. The mentioned territories are mainly the territories of the emerald network and an important place for the conservation of biodiversity", - it is written in the description of the draft law.
