Protected areas will be created in Svaneti and Lechkhumi

In connection with the creation of protected areas in Svaneti and Lechkhumi, meetings with civil society and local communities are actively underway in the municipalities of Tsageri and Mestia.

The planned protected area covers the municipalities of Mestia, Lentekhi and Tsageri, approximately 80,000 hectares, and includes the establishment of 3 national parks, 3 natural monuments and 1 protected area.

The establishment of new protected areas will ensure the protection and preservation of the region's unique biodiversity, ecosystems and landscapes, as well as the sustainable management of natural resources.

The creation of new protected areas in Svaneti and Lechkhumi will promote the promotion of the region at the national and international level and will provide the local population with the opportunity to receive additional economic benefits. That is why, in the process of establishing new protected areas, it is important to involve the local population and take into account their interests.

At the current stage, organized by the Agency of Protected Areas, informational Meetings were held in the following communities of Mestia municipality: Nakra, Etseri, Fari, Becho, Ifari, Mulakhi, Kala, Ushguli, as well as in the villages of Tsageri municipality in Nakurale and Okure.

Similar meetings with the local population will continue in the future.
