In Bakhmaro, 2 persons have been arrested on charges of land grabbing and illegal construction of cottages

Anti-corruption agency employees have arrested two persons on the facts of arbitrary seizure, illegal alienation and construction of state-owned land plots in Bakhmaro township of Chokhatauri municipality, as well as in other resort zones.

"The conducted investigation established that in exchange for the illegal transfer of the state-owned land plot in Bakhmaro township and the construction of cottages without the corresponding permit, the defendant involved in the illegal construction of cottages in the same area demanded 11,000 USD from one of the citizens. From the mentioned amount, he requested the advance transfer of 7,000 USD. According to his promise, after the transfer of the money, it would be possible to give the state Illegal construction of a cottage on the owned land, which is why the citizen would not face any problems during the construction process or after its completion by the relevant services of the municipality.

On November 6, 2025, according to the request, from 11,000 US dollars, the citizen charged Ul gave 7,000 USD in advance. After handing over the money, the accused met with the deputy director of Bakhmaro Resort, who was aware of the criminal activity. He offered to hand over part of the money in exchange for the protection of illegal construction on the territory of the resort, however, the deputy director of Bakhmaro Resort did not dare to take the money, and the reason for the accused was the new leadership - the new mayor of the municipality. and named his deputies. After breaking up with him, he did not report to the law enforcement authorities about the commission of a serious crime known to him.

In the case, on the basis of the court's decision, covert investigative actions were conducted and audio/video evidence of the crime was obtained.

In connection with the mentioned criminal actions, the investigation is being conducted under Article 19, Article 180, Part 3, Sub-paragraph "b" and Article 376, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which is a large amount of attempted fraud and a serious crime. It implies non-reporting and provides imprisonment for a term of 6 to 9 years as a punishment.

The State Security Service will pay special attention to the detection of similar criminal acts and their further prevention. Accordingly, we call on all those citizens who intend to illegally appropriate state-owned land in resort areas or in any other place, to carry out illegal constructions and similar actions - to refuse to carry out their criminal intent and obey the law, because otherwise they will have to accept severe punishment," it is said.
