We are actively working to diversify the aviation market

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani explains the details regarding the start of regular direct flights between Tbilisi and Beijing by the largest Chinese airline Air China from December 2. According to Tamar Yoseliyan, direct flights between the capitals of the two countries will be made twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday via the city of Urumqi.

"Tbilisi-Urumchi will, of course, remain a commercial route, however, the Beijing component will be added. Passengers will be able to comfortably travel from Tbilisi to Beijing and vice versa. This means that one stop will be made in the city of Urumchi, and passengers will then arrive directly in Beijing. What is important, passengers will not have to leave the board or go through other relevant procedures, that is, the journey between the two capitals will be as comfortable as possible", - noted the deputy minister.

Speaking on the issue of air traffic between Georgia and China, Tamar Ioseliani emphasized that regular flights between Tbilisi and Beijing The direct flight from Ary is the result of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to the People's Republic of China some time ago. In addition, the deputy minister drew attention to the memorandum on the joint development of the "Air Silk Road", which was signed during the visit of the Georgian government delegation to the People's Republic of China, and which envisages cooperation based on liberal principles in the civil aviation sector.

"Accordingly, in this direction, we are deepening cooperation with the People's Republic of China in order to double and make tangible results in terms of both passenger traffic and cargo transportation. If we compare the first nine months of 2025 with the same period last year, we have an 81% increase in passenger traffic - Air China alone carried about 25 thousand passengers. The trend is very healthy in terms of cargo transportation as well, We are sure that we will achieve tangible results in this direction by 2026," he said. and Tamar Yoselian.

In addition, according to the assessment of the deputy minister, China's interest in Georgia in the civil aviation sector is very high - the airlines themselves are interested in the Georgian market. Accordingly, the government is conducting additional negotiations in terms of adding both frequencies and destinations of Chinese airlines to the Georgian market.

"We work in all directions - the Union of Airports, as well as the Civil Aviation Agency, together with our airport operators, we work very actively to diversify the Georgian aviation market and to have flights in all directions, as well as the opportunity to attract tourists," said the Deputy Minister.
