Smoking is prohibited in the Maldives

A law banning smoking for anyone born on or after January 1, 2007 has come into effect in the Maldives. The rule will restrict the buying and selling of tobacco products to both local residents and tourists.

The Ministry of Health of the Maldives Islands called the initiative a "historic milestone" in the fight for public health and emphasized that the aim of the law is to "create a tobacco-free generation".
