Sazano Otskhanuri was added to the wines of protected origin
The number of wines with designation of origin has increased to 33, which indicates the diversity of Georgian wine and is particularly important for its promotion and growth of export potential.
The "Imeruli Wine Association" applied to the National Intellectual Property Center "Sakpatenti" LLC with the request to register the geographical indication of "Sazanos Otskhanuri" wine. The National Wine Agency participated in other technical issues related to the preparation and registration of the mentioned wine production specification within the framework of the "Development of the Georgian Wine Place of Origin Designation System and Promotion Program for the Protection of Georgian Wine Designations".
"Sazanos Otkhanuri" is red dry wine; The microzone includes the villages of Terjoli Municipality: Zedo Sazano, Skande, Mujiret, Chikhori, Delta District, Halmarkade, as well as the villages of Zestafoni Municipality: Lower Sazano, Tklapivake and Halmarkade. The microzone is located at an altitude of 120-420 meters above sea level. Wine "Sazanos Otskhanuri" can be made s only from grapes of the Otkhani Safera variety grown in the Sazano microzone and it is not allowed to use other varieties, however, it is allowed to add 5% Safera grown in the same microzone.
Sazano Otkhanuri is made by full alcoholic fermentation of Durdo in a vat or stainless steel tank.
Imereti is on the first place in Western Georgia with the area of vineyards. Imereti wines are made from grapes grown on mountain slopes and slopes and are distinguished by their high quality. These wines are generally of moderate strength, characterized by tenderness, fullness and peculiar aroma.
In Imereti, there are three wine designations of origin registered: Svir, Obcha and Sazano Otskhanuri.
